Okay so, I’ve been meaning to do a post like this for some time. It’s by no means an extensive list, but more of a “best of the best” type thing. Like, my favourite Johnkat fics and people OF ALL TIME. I’ll probably add to it a bunch.

I haven’t even read that many fics so if you have any really good recs feel free to send them my way! 

Most of these are pretty well known in the Johnkat fandom anyway, but whatever. Here they are!  

SFW Fics

Kar and Me is incomplete, so I wouldn’t normally recommend it, but it’s good enough that I am going to anyway. Karkat crashlands in John’s backyard. 

No Quiet Sleeper is a short fic, but it is really in-character, and really cute. It’s got time shenanigans and John being kind of an ass, which are my favorite things ever in a fic. 

But I’m A Friendleader! is an adorable story about John realizing maybe he’s not totally heterosexual and he might have a thing for Karkat. 

How Karkat Vantas Learned To Stop Worrying And Love Con Air is a fic about movie nights as is obligatory only instead of hating each others movies they completely love them and it has this really beautiful quality to it that is hard to explain. 

The Only Recipe For Lasagna You’ll Ever Need is really adorable fic in which Karkat and John try to make a lasagna and also kiss. 

The Sand and The Seashells is one that is just plain cute. It’s Karkat trying to adapt to human romance and deciding he likes it and is super romantic. 

Karkat and John: Fail at relationships is John trying to adapt to troll romance. They try to be kismesises but both really suck at it. 

How Do I Live is a really really short but super-adorable fic about Karkat smiling. 

i will buy the flower shop, and you will never be lonely is a really beautiful moirallegiance fic. 

Breath & Blood is a sadstuck fic. A really good one with nice illustrations and music that go with it and make it that much sadder. 

Waiting For God Tier is also a sad fic where John and Karkat die, but there’s a certain hopeful quality and sweetness to it. It’s illustrated, too. 

To The Fourth And Back is majorly sad too but it’s so beautiful. Contains unrequited feels. 

NSFW Fics (a bunch of them contain xeno stuff.)

[lyircs go here] is only my favorite Johnkat fic OF ALL TIME EVER. Awkward first-time stuff.

Asteroid Docking Procedures is a fic about Karkat and John trying to do a long-distance relationship. It’s great, and their reunion is super-beautiful. 

Only Water is a kink fic in which John realizes he has a thing for crying. It’s done tastefully. 

Hold Onto Me is a sexy “cuddling for warmth” fic. It’s funny cute sexy and kind of sad. 

Enforced Cultural Exchange is a bodyswap fic. The species swapping helps the two of them understand each other more. 

Learning Each Other (Got a Lot to Learn) is a pwp with tentacles and cross-species spit-swapping as an aphrodisiac. 

Kawaii Yaoi is not a fic about kawaii yaoi it’s a really fucked up gorn-y fic but it’s really well written and I like it. The author commentary makes the whole thing that much more amusing.  

Good Johnkat Blogs and Things

Boyfriendleaders is a completely flawless Johnkat rp/ask blog and I don’t know how any Johnkat fan can not follow it. It has a good balance of plot and cuteness and a bunch of other characters crop up too. Everyone is really IC and it’s just written really really well.

Promstuck is a complete!fanadventure based in the Marchingstuck universe which is, as I always say, the best AU. It’s really great and gives me a lot of feelings and is basically the best. It was actually the main cause of Johnkat becoming my OTP. 

Ask Johnkat is a really really great askblog by Bobie and that’s all there is to say on the matter. It’s mostly inactive now but it’s still totally worth reading through. 

Cakeitup is a general Johnkat appreciation blog. It is definitely worth following, mostly because of the incredibly cute Johnkat gifs.

Good Johnkat People (most of the fic recs are by people on this list, haha.)

Shelby is possibly my favorite person in the entire Homestuck fandom? I really like her art style and she was also one of the wonderful people behind Marchingstuck/Promstuck aka THE BEST AU. 

urbanAnchorite (aka t_ZM) is a really amazing author her and Shelby collaborate a lot. She writes all kinds of amazing stuff and a lot of my favorites are by her. 

Cephied_Variable is another wonderful author, though she writes Dave/Terezi more than John/Karkat I feel listing her is obligatory because she and t_ZM were the other two Promstuck writers. 

Fivetail is one of the greatest Johnkat writers out there IMHO. Johnkat isn’t always the central focus of their works but everybody is always so IC. They also run boyfriendleaders (rp blog) and communist-teenage-boys (appreciation blog). 

Bobie has a really lovely art style and draws a lot of Johnkat sometimes. They’re mostly sketches right now but they are GREAT SKETCHES. He’s come a long way and his style has really developed but his older stuff’s nice too.  

Kuzu isn’t explicitly a John<3Karkat shipper, but they draw a lot of cutesy interactions between them and are generally great. 

Andy is another great artist who draws a lot of Johnkat they did a porncomic once it was good. 

Miko is an author who writes a lot of xenobiology stuff and a lot of it is well worth reading. 

Oh my fucking god I’m all over this list.
